Rhonda Yadkin River Access and Park: Say no to drugs!

Parks are suppose to be nice natural areas where people can go to relax and play with their family. It's especially useful when, as a family, you have three year old's that need areas to run, climb and scream their little hearts out.  And the Rhonda Park at the Yadkin River Access has the potential to be such a place.

The park is flat and has a nice straight lay out of open grass with wonderful shade trees.  It lacks a little in the play equipment area but does come equipped with a nice swing, a monkey bar type climbing contraption and a well kept slide station.  I say station because right now I can't come up with a word to describe it.  Maybe a slide play set.  But anyway.  It's a nice little area that Rhonda should be able to be proud of.  Unfortunately, it has a massive problem.  Drug dealers......

I visited the park Wednesday of this week and for almost the entire time, I was on guard.  Cars would drive down in a hurry, park beside another car.  An exchange would take place and off the car would go.  This happened I believe three times in the two hours we were at the park.  Not only that; Suspicious, creepy men would walk into the woods beside the access in pairs of two.  To be fair, they could be fishing.  They could just be taking a breather beside the river.  However, this was not the case.

You'll also find a porta-john at the park.  The above mentioned peculiar men would enter said porta-john and you could see smoke billowing up out of the repository.  Interestingly enough, a truck came down and pumped the john during the two hours we visited.  My girlfriend actually noticed freshly used needles floating in the light blue liquid of the portajohn.

Multiple cars came driving down to the parking area.  Only to then turn around and speed back out of the area.  They were clearly looking for something or someone and it was clearly peculiar activity.  As a new parent myself, my guard was up and even though the park offers an open and quaint environment, this type of activity ruins it.  It's very unfortunate that the drug trafficking in the area makes it a never again for me or my family.  Get the drug dealers out of the park and families might be able to enjoy this nice resource again.
